After 11 miles, Shaun Leska had built up about a minute lead over Gregory McKirryher. Leska took a wrong turn, McKirryher and 16-year old, Sergey Lukashenko, also veered off-course. McKirryher took first place. Lukashenko took second, and Leska settled for third. The detour cost Leska nearly 3-minutes. He did manage to regroup and finish with a solid 1:26:10. The women's race was very dramatic. Jennifer McHale went out strong and by 2.5 miles she had a sizeable lead of about 1 minute over Kimberly Battipaglia. At 10.5 McHale was still going strong and looked like the annoited victor. With 100 meters to go the 36-year old Battipaglia showed the youngster what a finish kick is all about. Battipaglia and the 29-year old McHale sprinted neck and neck for about 70 meters until the previous 13 miles, the heat, and the humidity broke McHale. It's very difficult to run in the lead. There are too many unknowns and when one of those unknowns catches you while the finish line is in sight, it's difficult to shift gears and respond with immediate speed. Good RACE. Kids, remember: it's better to start your kick too early, than too late. And, always kick if you want to win regardless of who is, or is not, around you. Results for the 2nd Annual Lake Compounce Half-Marathon presented by TriSports Media are posted. I got a ton of photos that I'll post during the week. 6/19/08

her title and finished 4th overall. Results for the 2nd Annual Strides to Cure Diabetes 5-Mile Run and 3-Mile Walk from Brookfield are posted. Thank you to the Brookfield Lions Club, the sponsors, volunteers, spectators, and runners for a happy father's day. 6/2/08
